Mountie tells inquest how he shot man dead

March 28, 2012

BURNABY, B.C. – A Mountie who shot and killed a man in the victim’s bedroom in Langley, B.C., says he tried to get Alvin Wright to drop a knife before he fired.

Sgt. Don Davidson was testifying at an inquest into the shooting in 2010, which followed a 911 call from Wright’s girlfriend.

He says police announced themselves before going into the bedroom, where they found Wright crouched in a closet holding a knife.

Davidson says Wright asked to be shot and stepped toward the officer with the weapon.

The officer says he fired his gun once and Wright fell, saying “I wasn’t going to stab you, dude.”

Davidson says he didn’t have much room to move in the small room and told Wright he didn’t want to shoot him. (CKNW,News1130)
