Hit-and-run driver files an appeal

July 4, 2012

A Langley man who committed a fatal hit and run in 2008 has filed an appeal with B.C.’s highest court.

In May, Brent Parent was sentenced to five and a half years in prison and banned from driving for 12 years after he’s released from custody.

The 43-year-old was convicted of criminal negligence causing the death of 21-year old Silas O’Brien following an incident of road rage in Langley.

The judge determined he deliberately swerved his truck into the victim and two friends while they were standing on the side of the road.

Parent had more than 60 prior driving convictions.

Documents filed with the B.C. Court of Appeal show he wants both his sentence and conviction overturned.
